A reality check when you're always pushing through

A few honest reminders for people who keep going regardless.

Pushing through is a useful skill in this job. It is worth checking now and then whether it has become the only setting you have.

Things worth remembering

  • Coping is not the same as feeling well
  • Rest is part of the work, not a reward for finishing it
  • Busy is not always the same as productive
  • Your inner critic is not an objective observer
  • "Good enough" is often genuinely enough
  • Saying no to one thing can protect your capacity for another

Things that may help

  • Notice where you are holding physical tension — jaw, shoulders, hands
  • Pick one thing this week you will do to a good-enough standard
  • Ask for support before things feel unmanageable, not after

When to get more support

If you are running on empty, or things feel harder than they used to, talk to someone — a colleague, a peer supporter or your GP.
